Vampire Weekend has dropped two singles from their upcoming album “Only God Was Above Us”: “Gen-X Cops” and “Capricorn”. While “Gen-X Cops” is a lively subway surf-rock tune touching on generational conflicts, “Capricorn” takes a more introspective, melancholic approach with themes of mortality. As a Capricorn, the preference leans towards “Capricorn”, seeing it as a rare spotlight for a sign often overlooked in the realm of artistic inspiration.
Capricorns typically lack the distinctiveness afforded to other signs, lacking dedicated anthems or defining characteristics. They endure being overshadowed by more prominent signs and even lack their own season, relegated to the less glamorous days of January. The essence of Capricorns tends towards practicality and responsibility, which doesn’t often lend itself to captivating artistry.
Vampire Weekend has also announced a North American tour in support of their album, starting in June with various festival appearances and multiple shows in notable venues like Madison Square Garden. The tour will feature a diverse lineup of supporting acts including Mike Gordon of Phish, Maya Rudolph’s Prince cover band Princess, and others. The singles come with accompanying music videos featuring nostalgic footage of New York from the 1980s, capturing the era’s essence authentically.
